A winter color pick up

Dear Chicago House,

Now I can't really complain...we have had no snow this winter and even had the odd day where " no coat was required" ...gasp! However on your grey days, where there is a smell of snow in the air and the weather man guaranteeing our first storm, I need a color pick me up. A quick visit to your recently decorated dining room can give me a quick fix but here is something else that works equally well. A small bunch of beautiful irises

I got these at Trader Joes where you can pick up a  great selection of blooms without blowing the budget.

Aren't these just lovely!

I love Jugs

Dear Chicago House,

A jug, if you are from the UK like me, or a pitcher which I really should call them after living in the USA for 15 years. Whatever you call them I love jugs and have a small collection steadily growing without me ever really realizing. The strange thing is they are all white, blue or blue and white and are mainly used for vases.

These lovely ferns were cut from your beautiful summer garden during a grand garden tidy up (I seem to have to do one of those every week) and were just too good to toss on the compost heap. Pop them in a  white jug and you have a ready made tablescape.

This was taken in the dining room which I have yet "revealed" ...it still has a quite revolting chandelier which needs whipping out and replacing with something more tasteful.

More flowers in the bathroom

Dear Chicago House,

I was so pleased with my little impromptu posy of flowers in one of your bathrooms the other day I decided to pep up another one, with blooms from the garden.

These lovely little flowers, blossom from a burning bush are sitting in little pickling jars I used to keep spices in. Who needs a vase for flowers anyway?
